UK cities to test legal e-scooters, medical drones and moreWhile the country has traditionally lagged behind other European countries when it comes to e-scooters, the UK’s Department for Transport has announced that it is exploring new transportation modes4. E-scooters, e-cargo bikes, and medical drones are the focus of the consultation – as well as bringing the on-demand model to buses and other UK public transport.

French fashion house, LVMH, switches product focus to hand sanitizersThe French luxury goods group LVMH is to start producing hand sanitiser at three of its perfume and cosmetics factories for distribution to French hospitals fighting the country’s coronavirus outbreak.

Twelve tonnes will be produced as soon as this week, instead of the usual Christian Dior, Guerlain and Givenchy scents and make-up usually made at the three French sites. The company also owns brands including Louis Vuitton, Tiffany and Moet & Chandon.

The gel will be delivered “at no charge” to French health authorities, in particular the 39 public hospitals in Paris, the group said on Sunday. Read more from The Guardian article >

Air freight sector pushes hard to helpAs Tiaca and Iata continue to lobby governments to relax restrictions on cargo movements, airlines are looking for ways to keep shipments flying.

IAG Cargo sent a note to customers yesterday, offering its passenger aircraft for charters.

UK goods exports increase

UK goods exports increaseNew figures released by HMRC this week reveal that 2019 saw a rise in goods exports in all four of the UK’s nations. Exports from England grew by 2%, from Northern Ireland by 2.2%, from Wales by 3% and from Scotland by 4.4%.

An increase of demand from UK goods has been seen from countries outside of the EU. In 2019, the number of businesses exporting goods from the UK to the rest of world totalled 160,400, an increase of 2.6% on 2018. Read more >
