IFS helps Sculptor Brendan Hesmondhalgh to ship his work around the globe

International Freight Solutions have shipped a number of Brendan’s Sculptures around the world and earlier in November, we were approached to arrange the shipping of some ‘Hare sculptures’ to various locations around the world including Brazil, China, South Korea and the US.

Brendan Hesmondhalgh – Hesmondhalgh Sculpture is a contemporary figurative sculptor, celebrated for his unique ceramic & bronze sculptures of animals, handmade from slabs of clay or sculptural wax.

Hesmondhalgh began working on monumental pieces after gaining a number of public art commissions. In some of these sculptures he experimented with animals on plinths and geometric bases which intensified the creature’s stature and allows for a greater contrast. The surface remains a focused element that he continues to develop. Adding colour, directional and textural marks.

Hesmondhalgh has established a distinctive style that is notably recognised and collected worldwide.

The recipients of the Hare Sculptures were all individual winners of the ‘Lush Prize’ – The Lush Prize offers a global prize fund to support initiatives to end or replace animal testing – 2022 Prize – Lush Prize

Carriers ‘in panic mode’ as recession bites, offering reduced ocean rates

Ocean carriers are said to be in “panic mode” as bookings from China to North Europe and the US west coast tank, causing FAK rates to plunge to new depths.

Freight Ship from ChinaDespite aggressive blanking that has reduced weekly capacity on the tradelanes by more than a third, the lines have failed to slow the precipitous fall in short-term rates and, are arguably fuelling the fire by offering sub-economic spot rates via their digital platforms.

For example, rates from Shanghai, Tianjin and Shenzhen to the Le Havre-Hamburg range of container hubs in North Europe, of $1,000 per 20ft and $1,800 per 40ft are now widely available for prompt shipment.

And some carriers are said to be prepared to reduce rates further for volume, and relax or even waive demurrage and detention conditions.

COP27: UK signs up to a ‘green corridors’ agreement

The UK has signed up to a ‘green corridors’ agreement alongside Norway, the Netherlands and the United States to bring about zero-emission shipping routes between these countries.

The agreement, made at the COP27 conference in the Egyptian resort of Sharm El Sheikh, opens up the possibility of carbon-free routes between several countries in the North Atlantic.

It also includes a separate agreement between the UK and US to launch a Green Shipping Corridor Task Force, a collaborative research and development effort.

Both Norway and the UK are well-placed to be able to offer green power to vessels through shore-power connections, thanks to an abundance of renewable energy. But while Norway is a market leader, home to dozens of shore power installations either built or in the pipeline, the UK remains “20 years behind” in offering shore power at ports, the UK Chamber of Shipping said earlier this year.

Currently, only two UK ports, Orkney and Southampton, are equipped with shore charging infrastructure, despite the fact that the UK power grid benefits from a large amount of offshore wind energy, with around 14GW installed.

The UK is second only to China in its total amount of installed offshore wind capacity – but distant from China in terms of shore power, with more than 50 systems installed across Chinese ports. Read more from: Loadstar.com article >
